Mugs of Beer

Using Different Types Of Beer Glasses Enhances The Beer Brewing Experience

Now that you have ventured on a home brew adventure and are brewing your own, it is now time to put some thought into the accessories you might want to help outfit your own bar area.

First, this does not have to be large. Even a corner of the family room, or the back wall, will do. If you have more room you might want to get into building a proper bar with stools and keg taps. While very nice, such a set up is not at all required to enjoy your new home brew.

The one item you must have, however, is a selection of beer glasses that will allow you to fully enjoy the beer you have created. It isn’t enough to have just a single type of glass and a couple of mugs in the freezer. You have put a lot of both time and effort into brewing your beer and it deserves to be properly enjoyed. Here are just a couple of types of beer glasses any home brewer should have on hand:

  • Pilsner Glass This has become the standard beer glass in the U.S. It is the one always used in beer advertising primarily because the curved bowl provides a stage for the light gold color of most American beers and the wide mouth helps form a thick and foamy head which traps the aroma. If you were to be limited to a single glass, the Pilsner would be a good choice.
  • Beer Stein A proper “stein” is very heavy and can be fashioned from pewter, porcelain, silver, or even carved from wood. The stein originated in Germany in the 1300s and is quite often as much a work of art as a useful vessel to drink beer from. Many have lids that are raised out of the way with the thumb. This development came about to prevent flies and other flying insects from getting into the beer. The heavy glass “mugs” more frequently used today are directly descended from the stein.
  • Weizenbier (Wheat Beer) Glass Shaped very much like the Pilsner glass, the Wheat Beer glass is another shape developed in Germany. Usually larger than the Pilsner, the Wheat Beer glass has a capacity of about 18 ounces. It is tall, slender and features a wide mouth to help form a thick head to retain the aroma of the beer inside
  • Flute and Tulip Glasses Both these shapes were originally developed to appreciate wine. The Flute is most often used with a sparkling wine like Champagne and the Tulip was created for white wines. Both are now used for beer. The Flute glass is very good for fruit flavored beers and the Iambic beers of Belgium. The small mouth of the Tulip glass is wonderful for retaining the rich smell and extremely thick heads of ales.

In addition to these, there are many more shapes of beer glasses including the Yard glass and the Pint glass. As you develop your beer brewing skills and try more and more recipes, it is equally important that you have at least a couple of different shaped glasses on hand to give the best tasting enjoyment possible.

And, lastly, don’t forget cleanliness! Thoroughly wash, rinse, and dry your glasses after every use. Sampling your new home brew from a completely clean glass will ensure that you taste only the beer and nothing else.

Beer Glasses

I’m not talking about beer goggles – those invisible glasses you’re suddenly sporting after a night of drinking that make the man with the missing teeth and awful comb-over suddenly the most attractive man you’ve ever seen. I’m talking beer glasses – the kind that can make your beer drinking an even more enjoyable experience (and far more enjoyable than a night with Mr. Bad Comb-over ever could be).

Below is a list of the essential glasses any good beer geek is going to want to own.

Pint glass – You’ve had a beer on draft at a bar, right? Chances are it was served in a pint glass. These are pretty basic glasses and are popular in bars because they’re quite durable. The British-style pint glass, which is bulged near the top, is good for pale ales, bitters, and stouts.

Pilsner glass – The pilsner glass is tall, slender and cylindrical. These glasses are meant to help focus the hop aroma of the beer, while keeping the head intact. It should come as no surprise that this a great glass for lagers, including pilsners (obviously, given the name), maibocks, and dopplebocks.

Weizen glass – Love wheat beers? You’ll want a weizen glass. The attributes of this glass – tall, slightly bowed-out shape, narrower top – help concentrate the aromas of the beer, while allowing enough room to accommodate the big heads that often accompany them.

Goblets (or Chalice) – Goblets and chalices are in the same family of glass, although there is a technical difference between the two: a goblet is thinner and long-stemmed, while a chalice is heavier and thick-walled. Both, however, are great for heavier, malty beers (dubbel, tripel, quadrupel, Belgian IPAs). That’s because the hop aroma doesn’t need to be concentrated in order to really enjoy the taste of the beer; rather, the bowls on these glasses are designed to be big enough to hold the entire beer.

Tulips – Unsurprisingly, the design of this glass is tulip-shaped, meaning that the top of the glass pushes out to form a “lip” and a bulbous body. This shape is perfect for strong ales, imperial IPAs, and imperial stouts because they tend to be more aromatic.

Mugs – Mugs are sturdy, heavy, and come with a handle. They typically hold a lot of beer – and are featured in a lot of German beer drinking commercials. Mugs were made to be clinked! They come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Their large, open mouth allows the herbal bouquet of the beer to be released, while maximizing the malty aroma.

Making a Gift of Logo Mugs and Steins

In the world of promotional items, it is always important to provide your customers with something they will want, not something that will wind up at the next garage sale. Some customers may be offended if you give them cheap promotional items, so why not go the extra mile and get your customers something they will like and use for years to come with something like logo mugs and steins?

The trick with promotional items is that you want to try and get something that will be used over and over again. Why put your logo on a mug if it is never going to see the light of day in the cupboard? You want your customer and anyone who comes over for coffee or drinks to see that mug and think about your company. By putting your logo on a mug or stein, you can do that. Don’t just get your customers any type of mug then, get them logo mugs and steins.

Steins are great mugs that are known as a German mug and often come with elaborate designs on them and lids you lift with your thumb. A ceramic beer stein, which doesn’t have to hold beer, is perfect for whenever you have people over. They come in various sizes and can be personalized with your company’s logo and name.

You can choose a variety of colors for your ceramic logo mugs and steins, and put customizable designs and etchings on the mugs and steins. The more customizable you can be with your logo mugs and steins, the more you can provide to your customers. You can give them something they won’t find at any store, and that will make the promotional gift all the more worthwhile for them.

Why would you go and get your customers a mug they can get at any store and then give it to them and call it a gift? Your customers will either never use the mug or toss it away and now you have just wasted a lot of money on something that will bring you in no money. However, when you get a logo mug or a nice ceramic beer stein and give it to your customers, they will be much more appreciative and will use the product once more. If they use that mug or stein once a day for 10 years, then that is 3,650 times that the customer and anyone around them will see your company logo. Over the course of that time, with coffee gatherings, dinners and parties, hundreds of people will see that mug or stein and that can help you generate more and more business for you.

Why not go the extra mile with your promotional gifts and give your customers something they will not only like but want to use. Custom steins and logo mugs are that exact kind of product and they won’t cost you much either.

The Many Beverages That You Can Drink in a Mug

Its not about how many drinks can be drunk from a mug but what you want to drink from them. Mugs are totally safe, extremely durable (except glass and ceramic), insulated to retain temperatures and they look beautiful.

Having said that, mugs are commonly used for two beverages, coffee and beer. Both affect the mind, so a mug has this unique mental connection with its owner. Infact, the concept of mugs, large cups for large consumption, was created by coffee and beer sellers in the mid 1800s. They used to be made with wood then, but today’s mug is available in a huge variety. Mugs are not just a trait of the modern civilization; excavations of prehistoric societies have unearthed mugs made from animal bones. That’s how long mugs have been used as a drinking vessel.

Coffee is a people’s favorite. Almost every American and generally a big chunk of world population drink coffee everyday. Coffee keeps you fresh and awake, especially if it’s hot. So your insulated discount mug will keep it boiling hot for a few hours.

Beer and mugs are an often recurring image. Cartoons and movies and books all show beer being drunk from wooden mugs in olden times. Today’s beer mugs are elite, big, smoothly shined and insulated to make your beer drinking experience all the more satisfying.

Apart from coffee and beer, mugs are used throughout the world for all kinds of beverages. Tea is consumed from mugs, so is hot-chocolate and soups. Some of the slim and sleek mugs of today are used as a sports accessory. Athletes keep their energy drinks and distilled water in insulated stylish mugs, so that they can drink from them when they want and the discount mugs look good on them.

If you are sick and have a bowl of oatmeal to finish while it’s hot, and you can’t tolerate it all going down your throat in one go, just pour it in your mug, and drink the now hot oatmeal slowly at your own pace. Truly, discount mugs can be used by everyone for every drink.

There you have it. Mugs, looking good and keeping your beverages tempered. It really is a question of whether you want or don’t want to drink your drink from the mug.

Why Choose Promotional Mugs?

When it comes to promotional products, very few items have gained the notoriety of customizable mugs. When organizations or businesses customize mugs with their logos and distribute them among employees and customers, they usually see positive results. Mugs are items that can be used in the work place or at home making them highly valued to a broad audience. Mugs are frequently used, especially coffee and travel mugs, which makes them perpetual promotional tools. There are three main types of mugs: ceramic mugs, glass mugs and travel mugs; each mug has their own unique value when it comes to promotion. Ceramic and Travel Mugs are popular trade show items while glass mugs are great for promotional events like parties and banquets. Below are all three mugs and how they can be used successfully for promotional purposes.

Ceramic Mugs – These items are a lot like pens when it comes to personalization and promotion. Not only are they ubiquitous in the corporate promotional world, but they are also some of the most frequently used promotional products by customers or employees. Ceramic mugs can be used for coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon and hot cocoa at night. This frequent use allows for incredible amounts of exposure from the ceramic mug user during their commute, throughout the work day and at home. Ceramic mugs also have great options for color customization. With their glossy finish and large imprint area, ceramic mugs are often the most colorful promotional products available. Design is important when it comes to attracting attention and providing a promotional product people will use.

Glass Mugs – Glass Mugs include various items like beer mugs, coffee glasses, tea glasses and various other barware glasses. The most popular glass mugs are beer mugs which are ideal as barware items, but are also commonly used at promotional events and celebratory occasions. Because glassware is considered more elegant than ceramic and steel, beer mugs are great for special occasions. Printed logos look great with transparent backgrounds and have a unique look when the glass is filled with various liquids like beer, water or other non-alcoholic beverages. Beer mugs also come in unique designs and can contain anywhere between twelve ounces of storage space to 34-ounces of liquid storage space.

Travel Mugs – Many companies want modern promotional products with innovative features. Travel mugs fill that demand better than any other promotional product. Travel mug technology has grown in leaps and bounds in the several decades since its inception into the mainstream of promotional products. With innovative features like uniquely designed rubber grips, stainless steel double insulation and more these products always offer an array of exciting features. Also the superior insulation of these products means that people can use them for longer periods of time providing great exposure for these promotional products. Travel mugs can be made of hard plastic, metal or stainless steel, all of these material makes them incredibly durable and gives them a longer lifespan than most promotional products.
